Freight Planning

The Polk TPO is partnering with the Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to designate a Freight Logistics Zone that will include a portion of both counties.  This is a designation that is available under Section 311.013, Florida Statutes.

A Freight Logistics Zone (FLZ) is a freight activity center, or centers, with clustered warehousing and light manufacturing facilities.  These freight hubs are connected by regional highway and rail routes and may include secondary activities such as fueling stations, vehicle maintenance and repair and workforce training.  Under Florida Statutes, a FLZ must include an existing or proposed intermodal logistics center (freight transfer point).  The proposed FLZ includes the new Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center in Winter Haven, as well as, Port Tampa Bay and Tampa International Airport.
