The Joint Airport Zoning Board (JAZB) is responsible for managing and enforcing airport zoning regulations to ensure airspace protection and land use compatibility around airports. Established under Florida statutes, the JAZB plays a vital role in safeguarding aviation operations by preventing the creation of airport hazards. It accomplishes this by administering zoning rules, reviewing and deciding on permit applications, and addressing zoning-related concerns that may affect airport safety and surrounding developments.
In addition to its core functions, the JAZB collaborates with the Polk Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) to ensure that airport zoning regulations are seamlessly integrated into broader transportation planning efforts. This partnership fosters coordination between local governments, airport authorities, and transportation planners, helping align zoning requirements with infrastructure development and regional planning initiatives. By working together, the JAZB and the Polk TPO support responsible growth and maintain compliance with aviation safety standards while promoting land use practices that benefit both airports and surrounding communities.
