Trails and Sidewalks

Trails and sidewalks are essential components of a vibrant, healthy, and connected community. In Polk County, these pathways provide safe and enjoyable options for walking, running, biking, and exploring the outdoors. The Polk Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is dedicated to expanding and enhancing our network of trails and sidewalks to promote active transportation, improve public health, and offer residents and visitors alternative ways to travel throughout the county.

This page serves as your comprehensive guide to the TPO’s trails and sidewalks initiatives. Here, you can discover current and planned projects that aim to link neighborhoods, parks, schools, and key destinations with accessible and well-maintained walking and biking routes. The TPO works closely with local governments, community partners, and the public to identify needs, prioritize investments, and implement projects that make Polk County a safer and more enjoyable place to walk and bike.

Whether you’re a daily commuter, a recreational cyclist, or a parent seeking safer routes for your children, this resource offers valuable information on project updates, planning documents, and opportunities for public involvement.
