Vision Zero Condition Assessment Study

A Vision Zero approach looks at how existing tools such as  roadway policy, roadway technologies and speed limits shape human user behavior. By using these tools in new ways, we can produce roadways that are designed to anticipate human error and mitigate its consequences.

The Polk TPO worked jointly with Polk County and other professionals to develop a study called the “Vision Zero Conditions Assessment Study.”

The Vision Zero Conditions Assessment Study helped Polk County apply for Safe Streets For All Road Users (SS4A) planning grant funds. Polk County was awarded $720,000 to prepare a Vision Zero Action Plan.  This two-year planning effort is underway. It is public-oriented with multiple opportunities for the public to help identify the 20 most dangerous roads and the 20 most dangerous intersections throughout Polk County.

Once the Polk Vision Zero Action Plan is completed, Polk County and its municipalities can use that document to apply for funds to construct the improvements identified in the Vision Zero Action Plan.
