City of Lakeland Recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community
The City of Lakeland was recognized as a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the League of American Bicyclists, a designation renewed this month in recognition of the city’s efforts to improve safety and expand biking opportunities.

The League announced the renewal of the City of Lakeland as a BFC on Thursday, Jan. 29 Lakeland is now one of 444 Bicycle Friendly Communities nationwide.
“Building better places to bike is a shared effort,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. “The communities recognized here are part of a growing national movement, taking practical steps to support bicycling as a safe, accessible and valuable part of everyday life.”
The Bronze-level award highlights Lakeland’s investments in bike education programs, community events that encourage riding, pro-bike policies and infrastructure improvements that support both recreation and everyday travel.
The Polk TPO congratulates and recognizes Lakeland’s renewed designation as an important step in advancing the pursuit of safety. As more communities strengthen their bicycle networks, the county moves closer to a transportation system where people of all ages and abilities can ride w
ith confidence. Lakeland’s progress supports countywide efforts to expand mobility options and build safer, more connected neighborhoods for pedestrians and cyclists.
