I-4 Passenger Rail Station Study

 

The Polk Transportation Planning Organization is leading the I‑4 Passenger Rail Station Study to explore the feasibility and benefits of adding a potential high-speed passenger rail station along I-4 in Polk County, Florida.

The I-4 Passenger Rail Station Study explores how future high-speed, intercity passenger rail service could connect Polk County to major destinations across Central Florida and beyond. The study will identify potential station locations and amenities that best serve Polk County residents and visitors.

We are seeking the public’s input to better understand the needs and benefits of adding a passenger rail station in Polk County.

Throughout the study, the urban planning and engineering team will examine environmental, economic and land development concerns, along with weighing public feedback to determine potential locations for a high-speed passenger rail station along I-4 within the county. This type of high-speed passenger rail service is typically an intercity or express service that travels at higher speeds and makes limited stops, similar to Brightline service. This type of service is different from commuter rail such as SunRail or rapid transit, such as MetroRail or a subway, which have more frequent stops and operate at lower speeds.
